Still Plenty of Value in Preakness 2019

Category : News - Mon 13/05/2019 - 15:40 EDT

In case you hadn't heard, the Kentucky Derby was a bit controversial this year. The controversy has seeped into the 2019 Preakness, but neither the disqualified or actual winner of the Derby will be around to compete in the second jewel of the American Triple Crown. No worries! This is still going to be a great betting race.

Still anticipating the actual field being set on May 15 for the post position draw, the number of horses that show up for the 2019 Preakness should be enticing. The major racebooks have already listed some tepid Preakness Stakes odds, with sites like Bovada listing the 10 major contenders and some interesting props.

According to the Preakness Stakes 2019 odds, these are the three favorites:

  • Improbable +150
  • War of Will +275
  • Alwaysmining +700

For the purposes of value and analyzing the race in advance, it looks like only four Derby contenders are likely to compete in the Preakness: Improbable, Win Win Win, War of Will and Bodexpress. Improbable’s fourth-place effort (elevated from fifth after DQ of Maximum Security) was the best of the quartet.

At this point, the racebooks seem to be in a bit of disagreement over the futures favorite for the 2019 Preakness Stakes odds. Bovada lists Improbable as the heavy +150 chalk.

Ditto for my top Preakness pick, Owendale, who is +800 at Bovada. Owendale was super impressive winning the Lexington Stakes at Keeneland and appears to be in career-best form for trainer Brad Cox.

Players are always well-advised to check our top online racebook partners to shop prices and odds. Before you do, it’s always helpful to have a keen understanding of which horses are most likely to show up. Here’s the list of 10, I think have the best shot of contesting the Preakness on May 18 in Baltimore (latest odds Preakness Stakes):

  • Improbable +150
  • War of Will +275
  • Alwaysmining +700
  • Bourbon War +750
  • Win Win Win +800
  • Owendale +800
  • Anothertwistafate +1200
  • Signalman +1400
  • Bodexpress +1600
  • Laughing Fox +2000

With the wagering value out there, it’s never too soon to start anticipating the next leg of the American Triple Crown. This year’s Preakness still holds plenty of intrigue from a wagering perspective. For the latest Preakness Stakes odds, check out our featured partners.
