$1 Million Delta Jackpot Draws Full Field of Twelve
The featured race on Saturday at Delta Downs is the $1 million Delta Jackpot. The Grade 3 race has attracted a field of twelve juvenile colts and geldings to compete in the mile and a sixteenth contest.
Mr. Z has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 5-2 on the morning line. Trained by D. Wayne Lukas, the chestnut son of Malibu Moon was purchased for $135,000 as a yearling by Zayat Stables. After breaking his maiden in his debut at Churchill Downs in June, he has been second three times against graded stakes company and was fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1). Paco Lopez has picked up the mount and they will break from post three.
Golden Actor training sharply at Delta
Second choice at 7-2 on the morning line is Golden Actor, a locally-based son of Curlin for trainer Ignacio Roncancio. He has won two of his three career starts and recently won the Jean Laffit Stakes at Delta Downs. Since that victory, he has had consecutive bullet workouts in preparation for his graded stakes debut. Regular rider Jose Antonio Gallego will be aboard and they will break from post position six.
Conquest Tsunami already a five-time winner
Also in the field at morning line odds of 4-1 is Conquest Tsunami for trainer Mark Casse. Purchased for $190,000 by Conquest Stables, the bay son of Stormy Atlantic has won five of his six career starts. His lone blemish came two starts back in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at Keeneland. He has been training steadily since his win in the Street Sense at Churchill and will have Shaun Bridgmohan aboard from post four.
