$100,000 Ladies Sprint Adds to Allure of Louisiana Champions Day
In one of the more challenging races on the Louisiana Champions Day card November 12 at Fair Grounds, the Ladies Sprint features 12 runners set to go six furlongs in the penultimate event of the afternoon.
At 9/2 on the morning line Fancy Madelyn is the lukewarm favorite following the four year-old filly’s gate-to-wire win November 22 in an optional claiming event. It was the Harvey Lourd trainee’s first start in over two months and she appeared no worse for the wear, easily cruising on the front end to tally her fifth victory in seven career starts and third in a row. Fancy Madelyn will be making her first stakes appearance and may face a more formidable test - particularly if she wants the early lead in race with a few confirmed front-runners. Breaking from post 6, however, jockey Roberto Morales could choose to tap the brakes to work out a stalking trip.
Speedster likely sent from rail
Stuck with the rail post, Snappy Girl (5/1) figures to match strides early with the favorite, but will have to show more endurance while racing beyond five and half furlongs for the first time in ten starts. In her last start Snappy Girl turned in a fourth-place finish while sprinting on the turf in a listed stakes event November 28 at Fair Grounds.
Lady Grantham has live look
Lady Grantham (5/1) could be sitting on a peak effort while making her second start off a three and a half month layoff. The Brett Brinkman runner finished third last out in the Magnolia Stakes October 30 at Delta Downs in a race run at a mile.
