$200,000 Treasure Chest Offers Great Betting Value
Of the eight stakes races carded Saturday, November 22 at Delta Downs, the $200,000 Treasure Chest appears to be one of the more competitive betting affairs with nine fillies and mares lined up to contest the mile race on the dirt.
5/2 California shipper Yahilwa is the morning line favorite for trainer James Cassidy after a front-running score in her last start October 29 against $62,000 optional allowance foes earning a 95 Beyer Speed Figure. Prior to that effort, Yahilwa was far from disgraced against top-notch foes in the Grade 1 Zenyatta Stakes running fourth behind 2013 Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Beholder. In May, Yahilwa barely missed becoming a graded stakes winner finishing second by a neck in the Grade 3 Adoratin Stakes at Santa Anita. Yahilwa certainly has enough speed and class to make her the one to beat, but she must handle the ship to Louisiana and the tight turns at Delta.
Eden Prairie (8/1) exits two turf sprints, and tries dirt for the first time in her career for trainer Neil Pessin. At the very least, Eden Prairie has more than enough early speed to force Yahilwa into a quick pace, but she has also proven to be a capable two-turn runner on the grass. It would be no surprise to see Eden Prairie stick around longer than expected under veteran jockey Corey Lanerie.
Class Included (9/2) will be making her first start since June 21, and just her second since February. She is, however, a very capable horse if she can return to the kind of form she demonstrated early in 2014. She won at Delta Downs in her only start there.
