On Sunday at Parx, the featured race is the $75,000 Christopher Elser Memorial Stakes. Restricted to two-year-olds, the race will be run at six and a half furlongs and has drawn a field of seven colts and geldings.
Morning Fire has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1 for trainer Keith Nations. A chestnut son of Friesan Fire, he has been on the board in four of his five starts and has two career victories. He will be trying to earn his first stakes win and is stepping back up to stakes competition after winning an allowance race last time out. Victor Carrasco will be in the irons and they are scheduled to break from post position six.
Strong entry for trainer Ron Potts
Second choice at morning line odds of 3-1 is an entry of Total Futbol and Balk for the owner and trainer combination of the Elkstone Group and Ron Potts. Total Futbol, a son of Street Sense, has one win from six starts and has struggled since his maiden victory. Balk, a bay son of Street Boss, is a two-time stakes winner and has won half of his six outings. Daniel Centeno has been named aboard both contenders.
Big Louie D stepping up in class after maiden win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 9-2 is Big Louie D for trainer Jason Servis. A gray son of Stormy Atlantic, he was purchased for $70,000 as a yearling and will be stepping up in class to stakes company for the first time. He finished second in his career debut and followed that up with a victory against maiden company last out. Joshua Navarro will be aboard and they will break from post five.
