Bar of Gold Shines in $250,000 Raven Run Stakes
On Saturday at Keeneland, the featured race is the $250,000 Raven Run Stakes. Restricted to three-year-old fillies, the seven-furlong race holds Grade 2 status and has attracted a field of eleven.
Bar of Gold tops the wide open field as the favorite at odds of 5-2 on the morning line for trainer John Kimmel. A dark bay daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, she has been on the board in five of her seven starts and is a three-time career winner. She will be trying to earn the first black type victory of her career and has been second in her last two starts, both of which came against graded stakes competition. Jose Lezcano will be aboard and they will break from post two.
Irish Jasper looking to rebound
Second choice at 5-1 on the morning line is Irish Jasper for trainer Chad Brown. A dark bay daughter of First Defence, she has won six of her eleven starts and is a multiple graded stakes winner. After three consecutive victories into the summer including the Victory Ride Stakes (G3), she has finished off the board in her last two races and is trying to return to form. Shaun Bridgmohan will be aboard and they will break from post position three.
Step back up in class for Miss Ella
Also in the field at morning line odds of 8-1 is Miss Ella for trainer Graham Motion. A bay daughter of Exchange Rate bred and owned by Jack Swain, III, she has won half of her six starts and was a graded stakes winner as a juvenile. She earned her first victory of the year last time out in the Christiecat Stakes and will step back up to graded company. Trevor McCarthy will be aboard and they will break from post position five.
