Bayerd Tops Seven Rivals in $100,000 Clever Trevor Stakes
On Friday at Remington Park, two-year-olds will compete in the $100,000 Clever Trevor Stakes. The seven-furlong contest has attracted a field of eight promising juveniles.
Steve Asmussen will saddle Bayerd, the morning line favorite at odds of 4-5. Purchased for $75,000 in May, the bay son of Speightstown was third in his career debut at Saratoga in July. He followed that up in August at Saratoga with an 11 length romp against maiden company and won the Kip Deville Stakes at Remington Park last time out. With regular rider Rosie Napravnik now retired to start a family, Ricardo Santana, Jr. has picked up the mount and will break from post five.
Shotgun Kowboya local horse with strong record
Second choice at 5-2 on the morning line is Shotgun Kowboy, an Oklahoma-bred son of Kodiak Kowboy. Bred, owned and trained by C.R. Trout, the bay gelding broke his maiden at first asking against state-bred competition and was third to Bayerd in the Kip Deville. He delivered as the heavy favorite last time out in the Oklahoma Classics Juvenile. Luis Quinonez will be aboard and they are scheduled to break from post two.
Lord Tyriontrying to return to form
Also in the field is Lord Tyrion, a longshot at 15-1 on the morning line for trainer Ian Wilkes. A bay son of Discreetly Mine, he was purchased for $110,000 earlier in the year by Dennis Farkas. After breaking his maiden in his second start, he was tenth and last in the Saratoga Special and fifth against allowance company. Chris Landeros will be aboard and the colt will get an equipment change and wear blinkers for the first time.
