If she manages to come away better, she may be able to either sit more tactically or have more in the tank for later. Since she is one of the better-bred long-distance runners, that stamina combined with an ability to close into a slow pace means she has a shot.
Among the long shots in the field, British Artillery deserves a long look. He has perhaps the best 12-furlong pedigree in the field, meaning he can outstay the foes who tire. Furthermore, he is one of the few horses in the field with speed. Assuming he can get a decent break from that near-inside gate, he should be able to sit in close range of Paramount Prince, get an early run, and be a late threat at big odds.
Even though Elysian Field will probably run into the same issue she did in the King’s Plate – specifically, being unable to get all the way there behind a sluggish pace – she kept chasing tenaciously that day and may be able to do so again. She wasn’t losing ground late on a pace-advantaged Paramount Prince that day, and if she finds a similar effort she can chase on for a piece of the money again.
