On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, the stakes races will continue with the $200,000 Appleton Stakes. Scheduled to be run at one mile on the turf, the Grade 3 event has drawn a field of eight colts and geldings.
Divisidero has been tabbed as the morning line favorite in the contentious field at odds of 5-2 for trainer William “Buff” Bradley. A four-year-old son of Kitten’s Joy, he has been on the board in five of his six starts and is trying to earn his fourth victory. He returned off of a seven-month layoff last time out to finish third in the Canadian Turf Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park. Edgar Prado will be aboard and they will break from post position six.
Long on Value making second start off of a layoff
Second choice at morning line odds of 3-1 is Long on Value for trainer Bill Mott. A five-year-old son of Value Plus, he has won six of his nineteen starts and is a multiple graded stakes winner. Like Divisidero, he returned in the Canadian Turf Stakes (G3) off of an extended layoff and finished second. Jose Lezcano will be aboard and they will break from post position four in his second start of the year.
Reporting Star looking for second graded stakes win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 6-1 is Reporting Star for trainer Brendan Walsh. A six-year-old son of Circular Quay, the chestnut gelding is a six-time winner and was a graded stakes winner last year. He was last seen finishing second in the Sunshine Millions Turf Stakes and has had several recent workouts. Luis Saez will be aboard and they will break from the outside post as he returns off a brief layoff.
