First Try on Dirt for Collected in $100,000 Sham Stakes
On Saturday at Santa Anita, the road to the Kentucky Derby will begin with the $100,000 Sham Stakes. Restricted to three-year-olds, the Grade 3 race offers qualifying points towards the Run for the Roses and will be contested at one mile.
Collected has been installed as the morning line favorite in the field of nine at odds of 3-1 for trainer Bob Baffert. A chestnut son of City Zip, he will be switching to the dirt for the first time and has one win from two starts. After breaking his maiden on the lawn at first asking, he was second in the Cecil B. DeMille Stakes (G3) in his stakes debut. Martin Garcia will be aboard and they will break from the outside post.
Dressed in Hermes switching to dirt
Second choice at morning line odds of 7-2 is Dressed in Hermes for trainer Janet Armstrong. Bred and owned by Budget Stables, the gelded son of Hat Trick (JPN) has been on the board in three of his five starts and is a two-time winner. He will be trying the dirt after winning the Cecil B. DeMille Stakes (G3) last time out and will have Mike Smith in the irons from post position two as he goes for his second straight win.
Found Money trying for first graded stakes win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 6-1 is Found Money, one of three horses in the race for trainer Doug O’Neill. Bred and owned by Reddam Racing, the chestnut son of Square Eddie has won three of his seven starts and is a multiple stakes winner. He is stepping back up to graded company after winning the King Glorious Stakes and will have regular rider Mario Gutierrez aboard from post four.
