Hard Knocking Valid Back in $100,000 Harlan's Holiday Stakes after Breeders' Cup
On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, the track will host the $100,000 Harlans Holiday Stakes. Scheduled to be run at a mile and a sixteenth on the main track, the stakes race has drawn a field of ten colts and geldings.
Valid has been tabbed as the morning line favorite at odds of 5-2 in the deep field for trainer Marcus Vitali. A five-year-old son of Medaglia d’Oro, the dark bay gelding is a ten time winner and has multiple graded stakes victories. This year, he has been on the board in eight of his eleven starts and was last seen finishing a competitive fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1). He has been training forwardly since then and will have jockey Matthew Rispoli aboard from post two.
Madefromlucky rounding back to winning form
Second choice at morning line odds of 5-2 is Madefromlucky for trainer Todd Pletcher. A three-year-old son of Lookin at Lucky, the chestnut colt has won four of his twelve starts including a pair of graded stakes races. He rebounded after a seventh place effort in the Pennsylvania Derby (G2) to finish second last time out in the Discovery Handicap (G3) at Aqueduct. John Velazquez will be aboard and they will break from post four.
Mr. Jordan returning off of a freshening
Also in the field at morning line odds of 6-1 is Mr. Jordan for trainer Edward Plesa, Jr. A three-year-old son of Kantharos, the gray colt has been on the board in six of his seven starts and is a four-time winner. He has been on the shelf since finishing seventh behind champion American Pharoah in the Haskell Invitational (G1) and has been training steadily since then. Joe Bravo will be aboard and they will break from the rail.
