
Nine Long Distance Specialists Set for $75,000 Astra Stakes
On Saturday at Santa Anita, the featured race is the $75,000 Astra Stakes. Restricted to fillies and mares, the race will be contested at a mile and a half on the turf and has drawn a field of nine.
Gaga A (URU), one of two fillies in the race for trainer Neil Drysdale, has been tabbed as the morning line favorite at odds of 5-2. A seven-year-old mare by T.H. Approval, she has won five of her 30 starts and was a Group 3 winner in France before making her stateside debut a winning one in the Possibly Perfect Stakes in June. She has been on the shelf since a third-place finish in the Modesty Handicap (G3) in July. Tyler Baze will eb aboard and they will break from post position two.
Fresh Feline trying for breakthrough win
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Fresh Feline for trainer John Shirreffs. A five-year-old daughter of Kitten’s Joy, she has been on the board in ten of her thirteen starts and will be trying to earn her third career victory. She will also be trying to earn her first black type win and will have to rebound after a seventh-place finish in the Robert J. Frankel Stakes (G3). Flavien Prat will be aboard and they will break from the rail.
More Than Less needs to show improvement
Also in the field at morning line odds of 12-1 is longshot More Than Less for trainer Peter Eurton. A five-year-old daughter of More Than Ready, she has been on the board in five of her eight starts and will be trying to earn her first stakes win. She was last seen finishing sixth in an optional claiming race at Santa Anita. Mike Smith will be in the irons and they will break from post position four.
