On Saturday at Aqueduct, the featured race is the $100,000 Garland of Roses Stakes. A six-furlong contest, the race has drawn a field of seven fillies and mares.
Room for Me has been tabbed as the heavy favorite at odds of 6-5 on the morning line for owner and trainer David Jacobson. She was last seen finishing seventh in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) and will be trying to earn her sixth victory of the year. Irad Ortiz, Jr. will be aboard and they will break from post position four.
Princess Violet returning off of a layoff
Second choice at morning line odds of 5-2 is Princess Violet for trainer Michael Hushion. A four-year-old daughter of Officer bred in New York, she has won five of her twelve starts and notched a Grade 1 victory earlier in the year in the Madison Stakes (G1) at Keeneland. She has been on the shelf since finishing fifth in the Ogden Phipps Stakes (G1) in June and will break from post position six under jockey Junior Alvarado.
La Madrina trying for first stakes win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 6-1 is La Madrina for trainer Claude McGaughey. Bred and owned by Emory Hamilton, the four-year-old daughter of Tapit is a half-sister to stakes winners Verrazano and El Padrino. She has been on the board in six of her ten starts and will be trying to earn her first black type victory. She will have jockey Manuel Franco aboard and they are scheduled to break from post five.
