Salutos Amigos Back at Aqueduct for Repeat in $200,000 Tom Fool Handicap
On Saturday at Aqueduct, the featured race is the $200,000 Tom Fool Handicap. Scheduled to be run at six furlongs, the Grade 3 race has drawn a field of eleven colts and geldings.
Salutos Amigos, one of two horses in the race for trainer David Jacobson, tops the field as the morning line favorite at 2-1 odds. A six-year-old son of Salute the Sarge, the bay gelding is a ten time winner and won the 2015 edition of this race. This year, he has been second in both starts against graded stakes competition at Santa Anita. Cornelio Velasquez will be in the irons and they are scheduled to break from post position nine.
Second start off layoff for Dad's Caps
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Dads Caps for trainer Rudy Rodriguez. A six-year-old son of Discreet Cat bred and owned by Vincent Scuderi, he has won five of his twenty starts and is a multiple graded stakes winner. He returned off of a seven-month layoff last time out in the Toboggan Stakes (G3) and will try to rebound after finishing seventh. Jose Ortiz will be aboard and they will break from post position five.
Class test for stakes winner Always Sunshine
Also in the field at morning line odds of 10-1 is Always Sunshine for trainer Edward Allard. A homebred for Gilbert Campbell, the four-year-old colt has been on the board in seven of his eight starts and will be trying to earn his fourth career victory. He is stepping up to graded stakes competition after winning the Dave’s Friend Stakes last time out. Frankie Pennington will be aboard and they will break from post position three.
