
Songbird Puts Undefeated Streak On the Line in $300,000 Chandelier Stakes
On Saturday at Santa Anita, the track will host the $300,000 Chandelier Stakes. Restricted to two-year-old fillies, the Grade 1 event will be run at a mile and a sixteenth on the main track and has drawn a field of nine.
Songbird has been tabbed as the heavy favorite on the morning line at odds of 3-5 for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. A dark bay daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, she was purchased for $400,000 as a yearling and is out of the graded stakes winning mare Ivanavinalot. She is undefeated from two starts and stepped up to graded stakes competition for the first time successfully last time out in the Del Mar Debutante (G1). Mike Smith will be aboard and they will break from post position five.
Pretty N Cool trying to turn tables on Songbird
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Pretty N Cool, one of two fillies in the race for trainer Bob Baffert. A gray daughter of Scat Daddy, she was a $160,000 purchase as a yearling and has won two of her three starts. After breaking her maiden at first asking, she won the Sorrento Stakes (G2) before finishing second to Songbird in the Del Mar Debutante (G1). Martin Garcia will be aboard and they will break from the rail.
Land Over Sea going for first stakes win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 9-2 is Land Over Sea for trainer Doug O’Neill. A chestnut daughter of Bellamy Road, she has been on the board in all three starts and will be trying to earn the first black type victory of her career. She was third in the Del Mar Debutante (G1) in her stakes debut last time out after breaking her maiden in July. Mario Gutierrez will be in the irons and they will break from post seven.
