On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, the track will host the $100,000 Fred W. Hooper Stakes. The one mile contest has attracted a competitive field of eight colts and geldings.
Tommy Macho tops the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1 and is one of two horses in the race for trainer Todd Pletcher. A four-year-old son of Macho Uno, he has been on the board in seven of his eight starts and is a three-time winner. He earned the biggest victory of his career two starts back in the Discovery Handicap (G3) and was second in the Queens County Stakes last time out. Luis Saez will be aboard and they will break from post position three.
Second start off of the bench for Wildcat Red
Second choice at morning line odds of 5-2 is Wildcat Red for trainer Jose Garoffalo. A five-year-old son of D’Wildcat, he has won six of his nineteen starts and is a multiple graded stakes winner. He returned to the races off of a four-month break last time out to finish second in the Sunshine Millions Sprint Stakes. Javier Castellano will be aboard and they will break from post position six.
Ami's Flatter stepping up off allowance win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 3-1 is Ami’s Flatter for trainer Jose Carroll. A four-year-old son of Flatter, he has been on the board in five of his eight starts and will be trying to earn his first stakes victory. He went to the sidelines after finishing eighth in the Queen’s Plate in July and came back an impressive winner last time out in an allowance race at Gulfstream. John Velazquez will be aboard from the rail.
