The Grade 2, $250,000 Smile Stakes has drawn a field of seven for the July 2 sprint showdown at Gulfstream Park in a competitive betting race. 
On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, the featured race is the $250,000 Princess Rooney Stakes. Restricted to fillies and mares, the Grade 2 event will be contested at seven furlongs on the main track and has drawn a field of eight. 
With a field of 13 set for the 148th running of the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes Saturday June 11 at Belmont Park, a quick glance at the past performances reveals exactly what has already been said about this year's group of three year-old colts: they aren't very fast. 
While the three-year-old males will be competing in the final leg of the Triple Crown, the sophomore fillies will also be showcased as part of the Belmont Stakes Day undercard. The probable field for the one mile, $700,000 Acorn Stakes could be one of the best of the day. 
Ten years ago, a lightly-raced, but highly-talented colt was entered in the 2006 Preakness with a monumental challenge in front of him: beat the undefeated Kentucky Derby winner and a host of much more experienced rivals. 
On Friday at Churchill Downs, the stakes action will continue with the $200,000 Turf Sprint Stakes. Carded at five furlongs on the turf, the Grade 3 event has drawn a wide open field of thirteen colts and geldings. 
The $100,000 New York Stallion Stakes for three year-old, New York-bred horses April 24 at Aqueduct has drawn a field of six in the first of two stakes events on the card. 
On Friday at Keeneland, the featured race is the $100,000 Doubledogdare Stakes. Restricted to fillies and mares, the Grade 3 event will be contested at a mile and a sixteenth and has drawn a field of nine. 
Any idea that Songbird might actually get beat in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks May 6 at Churchill Downs, may have been left shattered on the Keeneland finish line after the April 9 in the aftermath of the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes.
